Job Summary The Chief Impact Officer serves as the primary liaison between the United Way of Greater Charlotte (UWGC) and its surrounding communities, providing strategic oversight of all programmatic activities including trust-based grantmaking, and developing, promoting and maintaining strategic community collaborations. This executive leads UWGC's community impact and organizational growth work, empowering each foundation and community fund while ensuring maximum impact with optimal efficiency. The role requires deep understanding of and regular interaction with all UWGC constituents-donors, grantees, nonprofits, community residents, government agencies, and the Board-to effectively advance the organization's mission. The CIO builds and stewards relationships with diverse stakeholders throughout Charlotte and partner communities, championing critical causes and responding to emergent challenges while maintaining strong customer service. This position demands commitment to fair access and opportunities for everyone, coupled with awareness of different backgrounds and willingness to learn from diverse experiences. As a key Leadership Team member reporting to the President & CEO, the CIO provides staff leadership to the Board and serves as an experienced change maker in philanthropic, nonprofit, civic, and social sectors. Responsibilities Develop and execute bold strategic vision that aligns organizational objectives with meaningful community impact. Direct all grant-making and community investment strategies. Evaluate the impact of the community investment strategic to ensure successful individual and community level outcomes. Champion innovative solutions by testing new ideas and taking calculated risks to enhance organizational and community outcomes Analyze regional, national, and statewide trends to connect emerging issues with viable solutions and donor intentions Lead and develop diverse, cross-functional teams while fostering a culture of equity, inclusion, and belonging throughout the organization Manage large-scale budgets and financial forecasts with precision and accountability to ensure responsible stewardship of resources Implement and optimize technological platforms to improve internal efficiency and enhance experiences for external constituents Address systemic issues affecting under-resourced communities through advocacy, resource allocation, and programmatic initiatives Represent United Way of Greater Charlotte at external events. Serve as subject matter expert on one or more issues related to United Way's mission. Build and maintain strategic relationships with diverse stakeholders, effectively communicating organizational mission and impact to board members, donors, and community partners What You'll Need: Education, Experience, and Skills Bachelor's degree in social work, human services, business, or impact-related discipline. Advanced degrees and/or certifications are welcome Demonstrated professional experience working at a senior level with a proven track record in resource development, community engagement & impact, strategic marketing and communications, and leading a high-performing, matrixed work team. Experience with nonprofit organizations and grantmaking, professionally or in a community service role is helpful. Strong project management skills with ability to effectively plan, execute, and oversee multiple initiatives while maintaining attention to detail. Strategic thinker with business analytics capabilities who identifies innovative ways to connect constituents for maximum community impact. Passionate advocate for United Way of Greater Charlotte's mission, experience working with and managing volunteers, beneficial. Excellent organizational and time management skills, demonstrating adaptability to change and strong independent problem-solving abilities. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with exceptional written and verbal communication skills for both internal and external stakeholders. Workplace values Take action and go!
